NVQs for Legal Advice
NVQs for Legal AdviceSkills for Justice have been leading a project working in close partnership with NOS4Advice.
Three NVQ structures have now been approved and can be viewed by clicking on the document below
Project background
The suite of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Legal Advice was developed by the legal advice sector in England and Wales and approved by UKCG in 2006. The development process was led by the Legal Services Commission (LSC) and funded by the European Social Fund (ESF). The NOS for legal advice were developed for publicly funded legal advice in England and Wales only therefore these NVQs will also apply to England and Wales only.
A parallel project has taken place to review the NOS, taking into account legal advice requirements in Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as updating existing legal advice NOS and identifying any gaps. Once these revised NOS are approved, the qualifications will then be updated so that they will apply to all 4 countries.
The three NVQ structures were developed by:
- A review of the project report for the NOS4Advice project
- A review of the NOS for Legal Advice including the knowledge standards
- A review of the advice sectors covered by the NOS for Legal Advice
- Discussion with the NOS4Advice Standards Steering Group (SSG)
- Discussion with the NVQ Sub group
