LA31 Criminal law advice and casework

This Unit is designed to equip you with the knowledge required to advise people accused or convicted of a criminal offence on their rights and responsibilities under the law. It includes advice provision within police custody as well as advice and representation in the courts.
LA32 First line disability legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with information and advice on disability discrimination at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice.
LA33 Disability legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice in relation to a broad range of disability issues. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of disability discrimination law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA34 First line discrimination legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to carry out a preliminary review of a client’s presenting problem, to decide whether the problem is related to possible discriminatory actions and what the next steps should be for the client, including whether to refer a client on to a more specialist source of advice.
LA35 Discrimination legal advice and casework This Unit is for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice to clients who may have a problem related to discrimination in employment or in the provision of goods and services. You will also know how to prepare and present client cases to employment tribunals and take other court actions.
LA36 The provision of advice to young people on their rights under the law This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in providing legal information and advice to young people on their rights and responsibilities under the law. In this context ‘young people’ is defined as being aged between 13 and 25.
LA37 First line mental health legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide information and advice to clients with mental health problems at the point of initial contact with the service and what the next steps should be for the client, including whether to refer a client on to a more specialist source of advice.
LA38 Mental health legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice on mental health in a broad range of contexts. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of mental health law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA39 First line housing legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with direct housing information and advice at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice.
LA40 Housing legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice in relation to a broad range of housing issues. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA41 First line money and debt legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with direct money and debt information and advice at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice.
LA42 Money and debt legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice in relation to a broad range of money and debt advice. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA43 Clinical negligence legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you provide specialist advice and representation relating to clinical negligence. This includes advising clients on more complex and specialised areas of law. You will know how to prepare and present cases on behalf of clients, but will also know how to undertake more complex legal actions such as challenging legal decisions.
LA44 Personal injury legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of personal injury advice in a broad range of contexts. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA45 First line employment legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with employment information and advice at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice.
LA46 Employment legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of employment advice in a broad range of contexts. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of employment law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA47 First line consumer legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with information and advice on consumer and contract law at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice
LA48 Consumer legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice in relation to a broad range of consumer and contract issues. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of consumer law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA49 First line welfare rights legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with welfare rights information and advice at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice. In this Unit the term ‘welfare benefits’ includes social security benefits, tax credits, the social fund and war pensions.
LA50 Welfare rights legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice in relation to a broad range of welfare rights issues. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of welfare rights law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.

LA51 First line health and community care legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with advice on health and community care at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice.
LA52 Health and community care legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice in relation to a broad range of health and community care issues. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA53 First line legal advice for students This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with information and advice on their rights and entitlements under the law as students at the point of initial contact with the service.

You will be aware that students have the same rights, entitlements
and responsibilities as other individuals, together with some that relate to students specifically.
LA54 Legal advice and casework for students This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice to students. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of student rights and entitlements under the law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA55 First line education legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with information and advice relating to education provision, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice.
LA56 Education legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice in a broad range of education contexts. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of the law relating to education. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA57 First line immigration legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with immigration advice and support at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice.
LA58 Immigration legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice in a broad range of immigration contexts. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of immigration law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA59 Specialised immigration legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you are involved in the provision of specialised immigration advice and representation. This includes advising clients on the detail of specialised areas of immigration law and related areas of legislation.
LA60 First line asylum legal advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients seeking asylum with permitted advice and support at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice.
LA61 Asylum legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of legal advice in a broad range of asylum contexts. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of asylum law. You will also know how to prepare and present cases in formal or informal hearings.
LA62 Specialised asylum legal advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you provide specialised asylum advice and representation. This includes advising clients on the detail of specialised areas of asylum law and related areas of legislation.
LA63 First line family law advice This Unit is designed to equip you with a broad understanding of the knowledge required to provide clients with information and advice relating to family law at the point of initial contact with the service and to decide when to refer a client on to more specialist sources of advice.
LA64 Family law advice and casework This Unit is designed for you if you specialise in the provision of advice on family law in a broad range of contexts. This includes advising clients on more complex areas of family law. You will know how to prepare and present cases in formal hearings.
