Working with Vulnerable Young People Case Studies
12 staff from Positive Futures Bristol, Plymouth and North Devon celebrated being one of the first to achieve the 'Working with Vulnerable Young People' award, which Skills for Justice developed, at a special event in Bristol in March 2011.
We developed the qualification to recognise the unique skills needed by those working with vulnerable young people, with a number of partners including Skills for Health, SkillsActive, Children's Workforce Development Council, Creative & Cultural Skills and Lifelong Learning UK.
The Award was piloted successfully across the South West, and now four Positive Futures workers have achieved the Assessors Award and eight have achieved the level three or four vulnerable Young People Workers Award. 25 candidates achieved awards for the pilot scheme overall.
Positive Futures is the national community-based prevention programme that every year helps 50,000 young people from deprived communities steer clear of crime, drug and alcohol misuse. Improving the skills of the workforce will mean that outcomes will be improved for vulnerable young people.
