    NOS for Mentoring and Befriending

    Background
    In conjunction with the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation, Skills for Justice are currently undertaking a project to develop National Occupational Standards (NOS) and a vocational qualification for Mentoring and Befriending in the community, with a specific focus on Mentoring of offenders and those at risk of offending.

    The project commenced in June 2009 with the aims of

  • Developing a Functional Map outlining the functions carried out within the Mentoring and befriending sector
  • Developing a suite of National Occupational Standards for the roles within the sector
  • Developing a vocational qualification for those mentoring offenders and those at risk of offending

    A number of working groups have been held consisting of representatives from organisations involved in Mentoring and Befriending in the community sector. Utilising the knowledge and expertise of these representatives, draft National Occupational Standards have been developed for the functions carried out by those working within this field. A draft qualification structure has also been developed for those mentoring offenders and those at risk of offending
