We are working with employers to develop innovative apprenticeship frameworks across the legal sector.
Advanced Apprenticeship for ‘Paralegals’
We are working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to develop an advanced apprenticeship for ‘paralegals’ i.e. those performing a role delivering legal service/activity who are not qualified solicitors. This framework, along with a pathway for ‘Public Prosecution’, will be available from Spring 2012.
This framework will create a structure to allow the commercial legal sector in England & Wales to develop pathways for their own ‘paralegal’ staff. Because national apprenticeships can attract Government funding and will create opportunities for school leavers, adult returners to work and people seeking a career change and a meaningful technical qualification whilst working in a law firm or other employers who have a legal function, we believe this apprenticeship will be very popular with employers and apprentices alike.

Consultation:
New Apprenticeship Framework Pathway for Paralegal staff within the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS)
The newly developed Criminal Prosecution Paralegal Apprenticeship Pathway is currently out for consultation. This pathway will be included within the Legal Services Apprenticeship Framework which will cover England.
This pathway is designed for Paralegal Officers within the CPS and has been developed in conjunction with representatives from the sector. We would welcome your views on the content and suitability of the pathway and framework.

The Criminal Prosecution Paralegal pathway incorporates the following mandatory qualifications:
Competence based qualification: Level 3 Certificate in Criminal Prosecution Case Work. Candidates will complete all of the following units:
